Update on our tours departing from August to November.

Please note the following important information:

  • If there is still a UK Foreign Office warning against all travel to that country, then the tour will not operate. Boris Johnson has already stated that he wants to open “air bridges” to all EU countries by mid-July. Presumably, some non-EU countries will be added as they become safe. New Zealand for example is now “Coronavirus free” so in theory an “air bridge” to that country will be open at some time in the next few months. This of course also depends on any destination country agreeing to accept UK travellers – without quarantine.
  • Quarantine. If there is still a 14-day quarantine required on your return to the UK then we will give you the option to cancel if you no longer wish to travel.

Both of these restrictions are likely to vary right up to the time of departure. We can, should we so wish, keep the tour open until the very last minute. Please rest assured that we will not wait that long. We will aim to give the tour a go, or not, at a minimum of 14 days before departure and will aim for 30 days.

Please do not send in any final balance payment until we contact you to confirm if the tour is a go or not.

If the tour you are booked on is cancelled then you will have the option to transfer to the same tour in 2021, another tour in 2021, or a full refund. If you transfer to a 2021 trip, then your payments are still fully protected by ATOL/ABTA. We have had to cancel, or postpone, all of our March-July trips and 90% opted to transfer to 2021.

The vaccine. I am sure you have been reading about the Oxford University CV vaccine which is already being tested. The government have already asked the pharmaceutical company Astrozeneca to produce 100 millions doses for the UK. As it is a UK discovered vaccine, the UK get the first batch of vaccine. This will be around 65 million for the UK population (not sure at this stage if children will be vaccinated) and 35 million to help third world countries.

Astrozeneca have already started mass producing this and say they can produce 2 billion doses over two years (83 million doses a month). They will know by the end of July if the vaccine works. There does seem to be a lot of confidence that it will. So that should mean that there are enough doses to vaccinate the UK population in August/September. I am sure that over 70s (and anyone with underlying health issues) will be the first to be done.

For June, Marisa is on furlough and I am working on Tue/Wed/Thu. Marisa will be back part-time in July and full time from August.

Stay safe and thank you for your continued support of PTG.
